FUTURE PLANS

Remember the Future's mission will be carried forward by the Alzheimer's Association:

Young Advocate Essay Competition -The aim of the essay competition is to encourage young adults ages 18-25 who are concerned about the impact of Alzheimer's on future generations to engage in advocacy activities and show policymakers that Alzheimer's affects multiple generations of family members. First and second prize winners will receive a cash prize and a scholarship to attend the 2007 Public Policy Forum where they will participate in visits to their Members of Congress. 10 honorable mentions will also be designated. All winners will be profiled on the Alz.org website and efforts will be made to garner media attention for winners.

Blogs and Podcasts - We will engage current bloggers to include Alzheimer's advocacy messages in support of increased research funding in their postings to build buzz about Alzheimer's in the blogosphere. We will also explore using podcasts on Association websites featuring voices of advocates telling their stories about advocacy and urging listeners to become advocates and contact their Members of Congress in support of increased funding for Alzheimer research.

Radio Call-In/Talk Shows - We will provide advocates with tools to participate in local radio call-in/talk shows to urge listeners in the community to advocate for increased funding for Alzheimer research. In addition, advocates will be encouraged to reach out to the hosts of local call-in/talk radio shows to encourage them to do a segment on Alzheimer research funding.

Growing Grassroots Advocacy - We will ask online Memory Walk donors to "Take One More Step" by becoming advocates and writing their members of Congress in support of increased funding for Alzheimer research. We will also increase the number of persons with early stage/early onset Alzheimer's participating in advocacy efforts. The presence of early stage advocates has already made an impact on policymakers and by increasing their numbers and involvement we can better communicate the urgency and devastation of this disease.
